We hope you’ll love the new features and we hope you’ll continue inspiring us to improve. This is just the beginning of things to come. Go ahead and update to our latest version and enjoy Pixelmator on OS X El Capitan, together with Split View and other great features, as well as the incredible Pixelmator Photos Extension. You can learn about the details on the Pixelmator Photos Extension page. To be honest, creating the Photos Extension with Metal was a lot of fun so we’re very excited about what the future holds for image editing with this and other amazing Apple technologies.Īnd there’s a whole lot more to the Pixelmator Photos Extension. That’s just something you need to see for yourself. It also allowed us to boost the quality of all Distort tools to the very extremes. It gives the Extension a direct access to the GPU of your Mac, cutting down compute times and making graphics processing lightning quick. One of them is Metal, which allows the Photos Extension to be as good as it can possibly be. All thanks to a few groundbreaking Apple technologies. Its really fun to use, and the quality and speed are incredible. With the Pixelmator Photos Extension, you can reshape areas of your images to retouch photos, create artistic effects or simply have fun with your photos without having to leave the Photos app. And with Pixelmator 3.4 Twist, just two weeks after the official El Capitan release, we’re adding some amazing, incredibly fast Distort tools to your Photos app. OS X El Capitan has introduced the ability for third-party developers to create Photo Editing extensions. Together with that, we’re bringing a bunch of other neat enhancements, such as an enhanced Force Touch support, which makes painting with Force Touch trackpad way smoother, San Francisco as the new user interface font, and the cool new Split View feature, which lets you work with Pixelmator and any other app side-by-side, in full screen.Īnd there’s more. And today, after more than four months of work, we’re extremely proud to announce that Pixelmator is ready and works great on OS X El Capitan! We started to work on El Capitan support since its Beta was introduced back in June, during the WWDC. As you can imagine, once the foundation is modified, things might get really messy. And OS X Core Image is the foundation on which Pixelmator is built. With the release of El Capitan, Apple introduced a unified OS X and iOS Core Image technology. This update really did take a great deal of effort on our part and the things we’ve done under the hood with the Photos Extension are seriously awesome. It brings some very exciting updates, including full support for OS X El Capitan, the new Split View feature, and a powerful, Metal-based Photos Extension together with a range of other improvements and fixes. It’s here! Our latest and greatest version of Pixelmator has just hit the shelves of the Mac App Store. I use both of these professionally but for personal use Apple and Fat Cat Software have served me well enough.OctoOS X El Capitan Support and a New Photos Extension I'll probably splurge for Photo Mechanic when I next rework things. It has served me very well and I'm still barely making it in 200 GB. I've got about three Photos libraries and one has my main personal work that's in iCloud. When I moved all in on Photos, I purchased Power Photos to help split libraries since I knew all my photos were 250 GB and I didn't want to pay for more than 200 GB of iCloud storage and I'm all-in on cloud library with a local backup. You surely can reimport the raw images, so if that’s an option, going straight to Catalina might be faster for you with not much extra risk. Go to Mojave and get an excellent backup you know you could restore in bootable format if you have professional photos, pro level metadata and edits / albums or can’t reimport them later. I haven’t needed to load Aperture myself, so it might be a moot point, but better safe than sorry would be my advice. I would be sure you delay losing Aperture until you’re sure you have a good import.
